Day 2 of Rapid City, SD (KRAP)

Rapid radiational cooling led to a low of 34F last night, at the bottom of the entire forecast distribution! Sunshine led to a rapid warmup afterward with a high of 71F so far today, though perhaps it could sneak to 72F. Max wind is 12 kt so far but could get a bit higher. The weather will be much more active for the rest of the week. Winds will be almost calm again tonight, but increasing clouds late in the night will lead to less radiational cooling tonight, and the clouds will lead to a slightly cooler high tomorrow (probably by 3-5F). There will still be breaks of sunshine which will allow for a rather quick warmup. The winds for most of tomorrow will be similar to today, but mesoscale models like HRRR and NAM 3-km show a strip of enhanced winds, perhaps related to elevated convection or other subtle mesoscale boundary, tomorrow night before 06z. A bit of rain will likely move in near the end (Thursday 06z).
