Clearing skies and cold advection led to a low
of 57F last night, though it will likely get lower than that by 06z tonight. Almost
full sunshine led to a high of 77F, well above most models, along with a
maximum wind of 19 kt. Tonight, winds will drop off just enough for somewhat better
radiational cooling later in the night, but will not drop off completely. Therefore,
some temperature dips are expected, but it isn’t expected to get as far below
model guidance as late last week, with USL still looking reasonable. Full
sunshine will lead to warmer than modeled temperatures again tomorrow, with less
wind as surface high pressure dominates. Still, given the strong mixing and boundary
layer turbulence created by the strong sunshine, “random” spikes of ~10 kt are
possible, especially early in the day, when the northerly winds aloft are still present.
