The Fort Myers airport
weather stations are still down and so no official verification, but from the
few non-official observations still left, it appears that the HRRR that I was skeptical
of did have a point on a cool tongue extending down into Fort Myers, though it
exaggerated it. So don’t discount it completely if it is an outlier compared to
other models. My guess is that the day 2 low was 73F at 06z last night and the
high is topping out at around 81F today despite mostly sunny skies this
afternoon. The slightly cooler and drier air mass, slackening winds, and
clearing skies will lead to more cooling tonight, likely below 70F. As Ian
moves farther away by tomorrow, we’ll return to more typical Florida weather, with
mostly sunny skies, a light westerly breeze, and somewhat warmer temperatures
as the cool air mass moderates.
