The high was 56F near
the beginning (just after Thursday 06z), with cold advection and cloud cover
preventing any real warmup today. A bit of rain fell intermittently today but
was not measurable. Strong westerly winds have persisted all day today with a
maximum wind of 23 kt.
Clear skies and light winds will lead to as good of radiational cooling
as can occur at this station, with it perhaps getting a little colder than most
model guidance. It is already down to 41F now as clouds prevented any warmup
today, but the cold air mass is peaking now, and the cooldown tonight will be solely
due to radiational cooling. It also usually doesn’t cool down particularly
quickly after it already stays cool from cloud cover during the daytime. Mostly
sunny skies with winds turning to the southwest again tomorrow will lead to a
quick warmup to above model guidance, with some high cirrus clouds in the afternoon
tempering the warmup just slightly. The sunshine will help mix down some
stronger winds aloft down to the surface in the afternoon, when the maximum
wind will occur. The USL is finally running and looks pretty reasonable.
