As expected,
strong winds prevented much of a cool down last night, with a low of 59F,
though it will get cooler than that by 06z tonight. Thick low-mid level clouds
tempered the warmup a bit, but it still got up to 69F and is going up for a
last-minute high with clouds thinning out somewhat, well above most model
guidance, with strong winds with a maximum of 25 kt so far. Some showers are
still expected this evening along the cold front.
Strong westerly
winds and increasing low-level clouds will prevent much radiational cooling
tonight, and whatever cold air mass behind the cold front is coming from the
west and is not arctic in nature, leading to temperatures likely staying above
most model guidance. The high will actually be at the beginning (Thursday 06z),
likely on the warm side of model guidance, with low-level clouds preventing
much of a warmup tomorrow. The low will occur at the end (Friday 06z) as winds
calm down to ~5 kt, borderline calm enough for good radiational cooling (though
KSDF isn't the best at it regardless) and skies clear out.
There could also
be a convective shower or two during the day tomorrow that brings a few
hundredths of an inch of rain in addition to a brief slight boost to the
already breezy conditions tomorrow, even if the mixing of stronger winds from
aloft is slightly tempered by the cloud cover.
