Showers and thunderstorms from last night
through this afternoon dropped 1.31” after 06z. With completely cloudy skies
all day, unusual for Florida, it almost didn’t warm up at all, with a high of
71F, before light northerly winds behind the slowly moving cold front/low
pressure system cooled it down slightly in the afternoon (which is also when
the maximum wind of 11 kt occurred). As the new low pressure moves away more
quickly tonight, skies will clear, but northerly to northwesterly winds will
also strengthen and hamper radiational cooling, though also bringing cooling
through cold advection. The low will actually occur at the end (Friday 06z), with
clear skies, and cooler air mass, and lighter winds (though maybe still a bit
too strong for ideal radiational cooling). Almost full sunshine tomorrow will lead to
a quick warmup to above model guidance again, with somewhat stronger winds due
to the sunshine and daytime heating allowing for more mixing of winds aloft
down to the surface. For
some reason, HRRR doesn't show the superadiabatic layer right at the
surface that is inevitable on a mostly sunny day, so it's much too cool.
