Scattered
showers brought a total of 0.26” for day 5. The winds last night were actually
the strongest around 08z and registered into day 5 (24 kt or a bit more). It
then warmed up to 53-54F, a bit warmer than model guidance, despite almost an
almost complete overcast of low clouds. Low clouds will gradually break up
tonight, yielding mostly clear skies by late in the night (except some high
cirrus), and combined with light winds, will allow for good radiational cooling
later in the night. Somewhat higher mid-level clouds might actually move back
in tomorrow morning, mitigating the warmup for a while, before clearing by
afternoon. Whenever the sun comes out, there will be a rapid warmup initially
before the sea breeze kicks in and stops the warmup, with northwesterly winds strengthening
in the afternoon after the daytime heating, perhaps stronger than USL, like late
last week. The northwesterly winds are a combination of both synoptic-scale
winds (with the surface high pressure moving in from the west) and the sea
breeze.
