Day 6 of 2021-22 Individual Tournament City: Wichita Falls, TX (KSPS)

Day 5 recap:

Well, it briefly touched 59F just after 06z last night right before the southerly winds strengthened and it warmed up. Surprisingly, there were no low clouds in the area, though the humidity is much higher now. Despite the lack of low clouds, some mid-upper level clouds and the higher humidity on the east side of the dry side is making it not as hot as it could be (like 97F to the west). Some storms initiating to the south could produce an even cooler, more moist outflow and a burst of stronger winds this evening.

Day 6:

Cold front arrives late tonight with winds shifting to WNW bringing in cooler and much drier air. Full sunshine will lead to decent daytime heating but limited by cold advection. For a completely sunny day, there is surprisingly much uncertainty in the high temperature, due to the strong temperature gradient and differences as to how fast a reinforcing cold front, accompanied by a shift from NW to N winds, arrives.

With the dry air and clear skies, temperatures will cool down quickly after sunset tomorrow evening. Winds will also lighten, leading to good radiational cooling, though there is some disagreement on this too. ECMWF shows the burst of N to NE winds in the evening with the secondary cold front lasting a bit longer, leading to less cooling, compared to other models.
