Day 3 recap:
Once again, winds were a little too strong last night, preventing good radiational cooling, and it only dropped to 42F, well above statistical guidance. There is still a chance of it getting lower by 06z tonight but that is unlikely. Strong northwesterly winds are still dominating today with a maximum of 26 kt, and that is also causing temperatures to struggle to warm up much despite the April sun, with temperatures topping out only at 68F.
Day 4:
The strong northwesterly wind pattern over the past few days will finally change as high pressure moves into the area tonight, leading to winds calming down. This, combined with clear skies and dry air, will lead to excellent radiational cooling. As high pressure moves to the east, winds will turn to southerly but will be light enough to not interfere substantially with radiational cooling, with model soundings clearly showing a pronounced surface nocturnal inversion.

As the sun comes up tomorrow, the nocturnal inversion will rapidly mix out, and southwesterly winds will strengthen and bring in much hotter air from west Texas. The extreme drought will also boost temperatures, as all of the sun's energy will go into heating the ground instead of evaporating water. In fact, it will likely feature the biggest high-to-low spread in WxChallenge history, beating the 45F difference set just last year in Goodland, KS!
