Day 15 of 2021-22 Individual Tournament City: Wichita Falls, TX (KSPS)

Day 14 recap:

Surprisingly, temperatures did not cool down much after 06z despite the light southeasterly wind and mostly clear skies, and it only dropped to 49F. Clouds did move in very late in the night as moisture increased and it was cloudy most of the day, longer than expected. Eventually, the clouds broke slightly and temperatures rose to 75F, cooler than expected due to the more persistent cloud cover.

Day 15:

Today and Friday constitute the Round of 2, the final round of the tournament. The winner of this round will be the winner of the overall tournament. We will have a repeat of the now familiar pattern of moderate southerly winds transporting Gulf of Mexico moisture and limiting radiational cooling tonight. Low-mid level clouds will develop late tonight and slowly dissipate by tomorrow afternoon as winds switch to south-southwesterly, bringing slightly drier air and causing hotter temperatures than we have seen lately.

A dry line will set up to the west of Wichita Falls and trigger isolated to scattered thunderstorms in the area in the evening, kind of similar to last Saturday but hotter, with the Storm Prediction Center placing it on the southwestern edge of the severe thunderstorm threat. There will actually be a lot of CAPE in the area, but a possible capping inversion and location far south of the main upper-level support will likely hinder any convective initiation. Since it will still be east of the dry line, it will not get as hot as it could have without the higher humidity.

A cold front will pass later in the night but most likely after 06z and therefore will not affect the low or wind.
