The
cold front seemed to have slowed down before reaching Tulsa last night,
with it still being 59F at 06z, so that will be the high. Strong
northwesterly winds led to continued cold advection through this morning
to a low (so far) or 46F, and thick low clouds have led to almost no
daytime heating for most of the day today, though it is just beginning
to clear out, with it up to 55F now, a bit surprisingly. Maximum wind
was 20 kt, not as strong as it could have been due to the lack of
daytime heating to mix stronger winds aloft down to the surface. Clouds
clear this evening, but winds will remain too strong for ideal
radiational cooling tonight due to a weak secondary cold front that will
cause a slight reinforcement of the cold air later tonight but also
enhance the northwesterly wind. As such, only a slow cool down is
expected. Full sunshine and dry air will lead to a decent warmup
tomorrow to above most models despite the cold advection early in the
day. The sunshine will lead to a deepening boundary layer, allowing the
strong winds from aloft to mix down to the surface, ensuring stronger
winds tomorrow. The winds will quickly lighten tomorrow night, perhaps
to ~5 kt or so, near the threshold for good radiational cooling,
allowing for the low to possibly occur at the end (Thursday 06z).
