A
couple of brief, weak, and shallow showers only brought a trace of rain
at KTUL last night, continuing the trend of lack of rain there since we
started forecasting for it. Full sunshine, dry air (relative humidity
dropping to 17%), and some downsloping led to a warmup to a high of 85F
this afternoon, with the sunshine helping to mix down the strong winds
from aloft down to the surface, with a maximum wind of 29 kt. Winds will
calm down later tonight, allowing for better radiational cooling after
06z, especially with clear skies and dry air. Winds turn back to
south-southwesterly and re-strengthen slightly during the day tomorrow.
With the initially very dry air and clear skies, along with a bit of
downsloping, it will get even hotter than today by a few degrees F. The
sunshine will help mix winds aloft down to the surface, like today,
though those winds will be weaker. There is the slight chance for a
shower or two tomorrow evening, but the very dry low-level air will
preclude much rainfall.
