Day 2 of Raleigh-Durham, NC (KRDU)

The winds limited the cooldown a bit last night, with a low of 49F. Full sunshine and downsloping west-southwesterly winds led to a warmup to a high of 81F. Surprisingly, winds were not any stronger than yesterday, with a maximum of 12 kt so far. An approaching cold front will stall around KRDU tonight, with winds turning to northerly for a few hours late tonight into tomorrow morning, bringing in slightly cooler air. Winds will weaken tonight but might remain just strong enough to prevent ideal radiational cooling again like last night, though the slight cool advection will help with the cooldown later in the night. Full sunshine will lead to a quick warmup again tomorrow to warmer than model guidance, though with winds shifting to southeasterly, which is no longer downsloping, and the leftover slightly cooler air mass, the high will be slightly cooler. Just how much cooler depends on how much of the cooler air penetrates into KRDU and how quickly the cooler air leaves tomorrow, but I’m guessing it’ll be a few degrees cooler.
