Clouds and cold air aloft
move in sooner than expected, leading to a high of only 49F. I guess the cold
outlier, HRRR, had a point. Never completely ignore the HRRR even if it is an
outlier! Maximum wind is 24 kt so far, but some showers approaching will likely
bring stronger winds with the gust front and up to a few hundredths of an inch
of rain. Stiff northwesterly flow will advect cold air into the region but combined
with mostly cloudy skies, limit true radiational cooling tonight. The same cold
advection and clouds will lead to relatively limited warming tomorrow. Some
breaks of sunshine will lead to temperature spikes and vertical mixing of
stronger winds from aloft, especially later in the afternoon, but it will be
colder than today with winds more directly out of the cold air mass source.
