Cloud cover was thicker and
more overcast than expected last night, leading to a warmer low of 55F. However,
clouds are starting to break up, leading to warmer daytime temperatures and a
high of 72F so far. Maximum wind of 10 kt so far. Southerly winds will strengthen
overnight with overcast conditions, leading to not much cooling. Cloud cover
will preclude much warming tomorrow despite southerly flow before showers and
possibly a few thunderstorms roll in during the afternoon ahead of a cold front.
However, there could still be some brief breaks of sun allowing for brief
temperature spikes which would also allow mixing of stronger winds from aloft. The
lack of daytime heating will limit instability and the chance for severe
thunderstorms. Still, a brief burst of wind is possible or likely along the
front especially with any heavier shower or thunderstorm. Winds will shift to
westerly behind the cold front with weak cold advection and some clearing
leading to cooler temperatures, likely leading to the low being at the end (Friday
06z). However, how cool it gets at the end is uncertain, as the cold front will
slow down just as it passes Atlanta and models disagree on how quickly the true
cooler air reaches Atlanta. HRRR has a fast bias on cold fronts in eastern
North America and therefore is likely too cool.
