Not surprisingly, cloudy skies and a stiff
north-northeasterly breeze prevented much cooling, with an overnight low of
38F. A shower brought 0.01” overnight. Clouds were stubborn this morning but
have finally cleared, giving way for a sunny afternoon and a high so far of
44F, but it is still slowly rising (diurnal cycle is shifted later on the West
Coast!). That's not as warm as it could have been due to the cold outflow from
British Columbia channeling down the Puget Sound. Winds surprisingly reached 18
kt today (perhaps due to the channeling effect) but will calm down tonight, and
with clear skies and dry air, ideal radiational cooling will occur.
Temperatures are likely to fall below model guidance given the station’s
history. Full sunshine tomorrow will lead to a quick warm up, even with the low
sun angle in November. Winds will be lighter than today with a weaker pressure
gradient, and therefore less wind-channeling induced low-level cold advection.
