Clear skies and calm winds led to the expected radiational cooling last night with a low of 31F. The few high clouds early this morning didn’t affect last night’s low or today’s high (on track for high of 60-61F). Winds have shifted to southwesterly today, parallel to the Tennessee River Valley. Together with vertical mixing of winds from aloft, this led to stronger winds with a max of 16 kt so far. Tomorrow’s pattern looks very similar to today’s, except that it will be substantially warmer due to southwesterly winds inducing warm advection, and winds will be lighter during the day tomorrow with the pressure gradient relaxing. Light or calm winds clear skies, and still very dry air will lead to quick radiational cooling tonight and plentiful sunshine will lead to rapid warming during the day tomorrow, just like today. Simple model bias correction from today should work well tomorrow.
