Mild today but the brisk westerly
and eventually northwesterly winds will bring in the unseasonably cold air mass
from the Midwest tonight. The winds will prevent good radiational cooling
despite the clear skies, and as such I don’t expect temps to fall more than
model guidance suggests, but with -7C 850 mb temps (near record low for this
time of year), it will be cold nonetheless. Low-level clouds will form tomorrow
due to low-level moisture and regional upslope NW flow (though the immediate downslope
into the Tennessee Valley locally might break up some of the clouds in
Knoxville at times). Highs could be in the 40s F! USL might be a bit too sunny and
warm. The northwest wind won’t be that strong though, as it is oriented perpendicular
to the Tennessee Valley.
