Moderate rain during 06z-08z quickly added up to
0.20” before drying out. Some clouds and cold advection limited high
temperatures today, though clearing later in the afternoon led to a late high
of 52F. It seems like every time HRRR is an outlier, it at least has a point,
even if it exaggerates it. Winds are not as strong as yesterday, with no sharp
front to get strong winds with (max of 18 kt).
Mostly clear skies tonight and winds turning calm will lead to decent radiational cooling, at least as good as it can get with its urban heat island and proximity to Lake Michigan. Sunshine for most of the day tomorrow will lead to warming temperatures, but a lake breeze will develop in the afternoon which combined with some high clouds, will stop the warm up early. USL has not done well so far in this city and is likely too warm again, while the HRRR is likely too cold. The winds will not be that strong, with little synoptic-scale pressure gradient and just a lake breeze to briefly boost winds.
