Last night's low was on track to be on the warm side of model guidance until the last 1-2
hours before sunrise when it calmed down just enough to suddenly drop to 31F.
Clouds entered in the morning and were a little more stubborn and thicker than
expected, leading to a high of just 47F, record cold for this day! The cooler temperatures also kept winds from mixing from
aloft, with a maximum of only 10 or 11 kt.
For day 6, clouds are slowly breaking up this
evening and will gradually clear out by 02-04 UTC, having little or no effect
on tonight’s low. Winds will be not completely calm but probably light enough
for some boundary layer decoupling and good radiational cooling to occur,
leading to probably an even lower low than last night. Plenty of sunshine tomorrow
and a gradually moderating air mass will lead to a warmer high than today, with
relatively light winds similar to today, perhaps more westerly and a tad
stronger solely due to more vertical mixing with sunshine and warmer
temperatures.
