This week starts off quiet in Knoxville, with a broad high pressure area settling overhead. This means clear skies, dry air, and calm winds, the perfect recipe for large diurnal temperature swings. Good radiational cooling will occur tonight with clear skies and calm winds, enhanced by pooling of cold air into the Tennessee Valley. A rapid warm up will occur tomorrow with plenty of sunshine, though with a few thin high cirrus clouds, with temperatures warmer than today as the cool air mass moderates and a light southerly flow begins. A simple model bias method, comparing yesterday's model output for today with reality, should work quite well.
