There was good radiational
cooling last night with a low of 60F before a rapid warmup to a high of 89-90F.
Winds switched to northeasterly or easterly with a weakening cold front/pressure
trough passing through, which might have actually helped promote descent and a
quicker, earlier rise in temperatures compared to the past few days. So far, maximum
wind is 10 kt, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets slightly stronger this evening.
As surface high
pressure slowly passes to the east tonight, winds will veer to southeasterly again
but will be rather weak, probably weak enough for good radiational cooling but
maybe just strong enough to prevent ideal cooling. With sunny skies and a shift
to southerly winds and associated weak warm advection, a rapid warmup to similar
temperatures to today will occur. It might actually be a tad cooler due to any
remaining inversion at ~800 hPa after the slightly cooler air mass entering
today, and the lack of any synoptic descent or downsloping flow to boost
temperatures. Still, the sunshine will mix down stronger winds aloft down to
the surface, though USL might be a tad strong.
