After
clouds cleared out last night, northwesterly winds lightened and
switched to southwesterly, more favorable for cooling locally at KABR,
just in time for a quick drop to 27F after sunrise. Full sunshine led to
a quick warmup to a high of 53-54F, with a maximum wind of 14 kt so
far, though it might get stronger tonight just before 06z. The
resurgence of wind later tonight will preclude ideal radiational cooling
despite the clear skies, though it will still cool down rather quickly
with the relatively dry air and clear skies. Similar to last night, the
wind might weaken just enough for better radiational cooling right
around sunrise, though the winds are very marginal and could be a tad
stronger than last night. Mostly sunny skies will lead to a rapid warmup
again tomorrow with warmer temperatures than today, likely warmer than
most model guidance again perhaps except for the HRRR/RAP. The strongest
winds will actually likely be near the end (Friday 06z) as a strong
clipper passing to the north leads to strong southwesterly winds around
that time, with the nocturnal inversion inhibiting the strong winds
aloft from mixing down to the surface somewhat.
