Day 6 of Missoula, MT (KMSO)

As expected, clear skies and calm winds led to a rapid cooldown to 35F last night. Full sunshine led to a quick warmup that’s still ongoing, at 71F now and is on track for 75-77F for the high. It’s more of the same tonight, with clear skies leading to a rapid cooldown again tonight and lows just a little warmer than last night. Tomorrow during the day will be a little different, with some cirrus and weak cool advection slowing the warmup, leading to a cooler and perhaps earlier high than today. However, the cool advection could also promote more vertical mixing and less of a warm model bias. So far today, the channeled westerly winds have gotten going a tad, so far just 5-6 kt though. The pressure gradient will be slightly stronger tomorrow, and combined with the cool advection helping vertical mixing, somewhat stronger west-northwesterly channeled wind is expected. USL seems pretty reasonable, though with the low likely being colder as it has been recently.
