Day 1 of Wichita Falls, TX (KSPS)

We begin a dry and almost cloudless week in the WxChallenge, after city 4 was amazingly chosen to be in Texas. It’s a rather straightforward forecast for day 1. Light east-southeasterly winds tonight and almost clear skies (just a few thin high cirrus) will lead to almost ideal radiational cooling, likely cooler than most models as is typical for such conditions at KSPS. The subtle warm and moist advection late in the night with the light winds could slow down the cooling later on. Tomorrow will be similar to or slightly warmer than today with a few cirrus clouds and somewhat stronger southerly winds, with the sunshine leading to vertical mixing of slightly stronger winds aloft (possibly up to 20 kt at times) down to the surface at times. It's possible that the strongest winds occur tomorrow night as winds aloft strengthen, though they will be tempered by the nocturnal inversion.
