Well, low clouds were more widespread than expected last night, keeping the temperature at around 20F most of the night before some clearing right before sunrise made it drop to 17F. There’s still a chance of it getting colder than that by 06z tonight. Partly to mostly sunny now but some mid-high level clouds are moving in, but somehow it still rose to 32F. With the low clouds gone, some radiational cooling is expected tonight, though mid-level clouds and westerly winds somewhat will increase later in the night which will limit cooling after 06z. Winds will switch to northerly tomorrow with some low-mid level clouds still around, though it will not be overcast. The northerly winds will bring in colder air aloft but less so near the surface, leading to a high slightly cooler than today. The colder air aloft will steepen the low-level lapse rate and allow more vertical mixing of winds from aloft, leading to somewhat stronger afternoon winds compared to today (still very little wind so far). Partly cloudy skies tomorrow night will lead to a second chance for the low at the end (Thursday 06z).
