Day 5 of Nome, AK (PAOM)

New week, and perhaps Nome’s incredibly erratic and rule-breaking weather last week will have tamed itself. It is quite windy now but winds will rapidly drop off tonight. Today is a day in which the slightly different period for wind verification (09z-09z instead of 06z-06z) will really matter, as the winds will be strong at 06z but much weaker at 09z and will not return for the rest of the day. Light snow at the beginning (Tuesday 06z) will quickly taper off and skies will at least partly clear along with the lighter winds for the rest of the day, leading to some radiational cooling. It will be quite mild to start with a brief spike possible at the end of the snow right before the wind weakens and turns from southeasterly to light northerly or northeasterly, removing any moderation from the Bering Sea.
