Day 2 of Fort Myers, FL (KFMY)

Complete cloud cover and light rain kept the high temperature down to 78F, not surprisingly. Outer bands of Ian are beginning to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains to Fort Myers. Ian has tracked farther east than expected. It is also starting an eyewall replacement cycle which will broaden the wind field. This has critical implications for Fort Myers for day 2. This means that the eastern eyewall will come extremely close to, if not right over the station, which means there will be ferocious winds tomorrow and significant amounts of rain, though the heaviest will still be off to the north. There is a non-zero chance of the station being knocked offline. With the thick cloud cover in a hurricane, the diurnal temperature range will be small again, with heavy rains keeping temperatures down especially early in the day. However, unlike today, there will be some clearing later tomorrow, as Ian moves to the north and southwesterly wind shear begins to push most of the rain and clouds to the north of the center, leading to a warmer late-day high temperature. Winds also will shift from easterly to southerly and will peak tomorrow. Southerly winds will also be more off the water where there is less friction. Whoever nails this will win the city!
